Wine producer Chapel Down has released its latest special wine from its Kit’s Coty Estate.
The Kit’s Coty Bacchus 2016 has been produced from the finest Bacchus grapes at the vineyard near Aylesford.
The grapes were harvested by hand in late September and then whole-bunch-pressed before undergoing wild fermentation in third and fourth use French Oak barrels for nine months.
The premium single-vineyard, single varietal wine is the latest from the award-winning Kit’s Coty collection of wines, the first of which was released in 2016.
The Bacchus is the sister to the Kit’s Coty Coeur de Cuvee 2013 which was critically acclaimed in the wine trade and won Gold at the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2017.
The collection’s Kit’s Coty Chardonnay 2013 was awarded a Platinum Medal and trophy for Best UK White Wine over £15 at the Decanter Wine Awards 2016.
Chapel Down head winemaker, Josh Donaghay-Spire, said: “This very ripe style of Bacchus has guava, melon and peach aromas with background oak influence. The palate is pure and focussed with more tropical flavours and an exceptional length.
"I have a particular affinity with the Bacchus grape variety, owing to the fact it is so well suited to the English terroir coupled with its versatility in the wine styles it can produce.”
Mark Harvey, Chapel Down’s managing director of wine, added: “ Our vision has always been to produce exceptional wines from the Kit’s Coty estate; to push the boundaries of what can be achieved in this country.
"Right from the start of this journey, when the first fruit from the Kit’s Coty vineyard was harvested in 2010, we knew this site was capable of excellence. We are thrilled with the results and are excited to now share these wines with the market and the growing number of pilgrims of Chapel Down!”
Its rich fruity flavours are a perfect partner to white crabmeat salads, asparagus risotto or lightly smoked fish.
In 2016 Chapel Down released Kits Coty Chardonnay 2013 which was followed in 2017 by Kit’s Coty Coeur de Cuvee 2013 and Kit’s Coty Blanc de Blancs 2013. The wines are stocked in the UK’s finest Michelin-starred restaurants, including La Gavroche, The Langham, Hand & Flowers and Sat Bains.
The Kit’s Coty Bacchus 2016 costs £25 (75cl bottle, 13% ABV) from chapeldown.com
