Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a Tony Blair musical comes to town.
Tony! is a satirical rock opera musical all about the former Prime Minister from the whimsical mind of Harry Hill.
The show, which will be at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley for three nights, tells the story of how a wannabe rock music promoter became one of the most talked-about political figures of the ‘90s and ‘00s.
After opening in London, the comedy received rave reviews and had a sell-out run, and is now heading out on its first UK tour.
It has been described as a cross between British sitcom Yes Minister and irreverent musical the Rocky Horror Show.
The production was created by Whitstable-based comedian Harry Hill, known for his extensive stand-up career and TV shows such as You’ve Been Framed and Harry Hill's TV Burp, and composer Steve Brown.
It takes audiences on a journey through Tony Blair’s controversial career.
After studying jurisprudence at Oxford and trying his hand at stand-up comedy and fronting rock band Ugly Rumours, the graduate found himself joining the Labour party.
Blair was elected as Prime Minister in 1997, becoming the youngest PM of the 20th century at the age of 43. He resigned 10 years later in 2007.
While the politician is the star of the show, there are a number of notable figures who make a guest appearance during the musical, including bizarre turns from Princess Diana, John Prescott, Gordon Brown and Osama bin Laden.
Tony! will be at the Churchill Theatre from Thursday, September 21 to Saturday, September 23. You can book tickets online here.
