The world’s last working paddle steamer is returning to Kent for a series of themed cruises.

The steamship, Waverley, which was built in Glasgow in 1946, will travel along the Thames from Gravesend for ‘60s cruises, nighttime sailings and more.

The historic ship proved popular after embarking on trips from Gravesend to Tower Bridge last year and will return to the county from Friday, September 27.

Now, visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the river on themed nights, including a Swinging Sixties Pirate Radio cruise.

There will be music from Adam Knight’s ‘60s Roadshow, DJs from pirate radio stations and an up-close look at the Thames Forts from which Radio City was broadcast from 1964 to 1967.

There will also be a trip along the Essex coast to meet Prince Michael of Sealand, a sunset steam cruise around the Isle of Dogs at dusk and a chance to sail under Tower Bridge after dark.

Captain Dominic McCall said: “Waverley’s return to London and the Thames Estuary is always a special occasion, and this year is particularly significant.

“We’re offering more special event cruises than ever before, allowing passengers to experience Waverley while enjoying one-of-a-kind sailing.

“From historic anniversaries to pirate radio, there’s something for everyone onboard Waverley. We look forward to welcoming both locals and visitors for what promises to be an unforgettable series of cruises.”

The grand finale of the Gravesend sailings takes place on Sunday, October 13. Passengers can be part of the Historic Ships Parade where Waverley will meet and sail alongside other renowned vessels.

During each trip, there will be either hot and cold snacks, an afternoon tea or a meal in the Dining Saloon included with your ticket. There’s also a gift shop on board.
