The fifth annual Broadstairs Food Festival takes place in the seaside town this weekend. More than 50,000 visitors attended last year’s three-day event, which takes place at Victoria Gardens and Victoria Parade on the clifftop overlooking Viking Bay.

This year’s festival looks set to be bigger than ever, with more than 100 stalls signed up, selling a wide range of Kent produce including meat, fruit, artisan breads and vegetables, along with handmade confectionery.

Foodies can enjoy cooking demonstrations by top local chefs at the Kitchen Theatre and there will be live music at the Pavilion.

The fair will be open from 10am to 6pm, every day from Friday, October 4 to Sunday, October 8. Admission is free.

Delicious delicacies from Kent and the continent will be on offer at Hempstead Valley's Autumn Food and Drink Fayre.

The Gillingham shopping centre will welcome a variety of stalls selling a range of tasty treats including produced fudge, jams, cakes, handmade chocolates, artisan bread, Mediterranean olives, cheese and Kentish fruit.

It will be open from 9am to 8pm Monday, October 7 to Friday, October 11: from 9am to 7pm on Saturday, October 12 and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, October 13.

Five breweries will be opening their doors to the public for the East Kent Green Hop Open Day.

Those taking part are the Ramsgate Brewery, Broadstairs; the Foundry Brew Pub and Wantsun Brewery in Canterbury; Goody Ales in Herne and Canterbury Ales in Chatham, near Canterbury.

They will be offering tours, live music, food and Kent green hop beers, which have to be brewed using a crop fewer than 12 hours old and which has not been dried.

The breweries are open from 10am to 6pm on Sunday, October 6, and entry is free.

There will also be a tour bus which will leave the Ramsgate Brewery at 11am, touring all the sites throughout the day before returning to Broadstairs. It is priced £7.50 per person. Call 01843 868453.

Kent Life will be celebrating the fruit harvest with its annual Apple and Cider Fayre this weekend.

The working farm, at Sandling, near Maidstone, is home to over 60 varieties of apple dating back to the 1500s, which will be available to try and buy.

Visitors can also watch the traditional process of apple pressing, as the fruit is cut, crushed, pulped and then squeezed in a giant Victorian press to produce fresh juice.

There will be a selection of craft and produce stalls, a cider tent selling local brews, entertainment by local Morris dancers and live music throughout the weekend.

It is taking place from 10am to 6pm, Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6. Admission is priced £8.95 for adults, £7.95 for concessions, and free for under-threes. Call 01622 763936.
