KIMS Hospital: Innovative knee surgery technology available in Kent

Sponsored Editorial

KIMS Hospital has become the first hospital in Kent to offer Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery.

This innovative technology enables surgeons to provide personalised knee surgery that could mean less post-operative pain and improved recovery time for patients.

.

Our knees are highly complex joints and put under a lot of strain over a lifetime. We all overdo it sometimes and knee problems can affect anyone. Knee pain can be the result of osteoarthritis, trauma or general wear and tear and when pain starts to disrupt daily activities, such as climbing the stairs, taking the dog for a walk, playing with grandchildren, and even sleeping, it could be time to seek help.

The introduction of Stryker’s Robotic-arm assisted technology at KIMS Hospital provides another total knee replacement solution for people with knee pain. The Mako System uses a 3D virtual model of a patient’s knee to create a completely personalised surgical plan. The surgeon held robotic-arm with AccuStop™ haptic technology transforms the way joint replacements are performed, allowing greater precision and accuracy and less bone and soft tissue damage.

Most patients who undergo robotic-arm assisted surgery with a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at KIMS Hospital, could experience less post-operative pain and potentially benefit from faster recovery times. This helps patients to return to their daily activities sooner.

The introduction and delivery of the robotic technology at KIMS Hospital was overseen by Surgical Services Manager Pete O’Neill who said, “Our new offering of the SmartRobotics™ System is a key demonstration of KIMS Hospital’s commitment to provide the local community with outstanding healthcare, and we are proud to be at the forefront of innovative robotic technology.”
