If there’s one thing we love about the Irish it’s their ability to enjoy the craic. This coming week, with the buzz of St Patrick’s Day in the air, an exciting live celebration of all things Irish comes to Canterbury’s Marlowe Studio.
Set against the backdrop of Ireland, England and America in the 20th Century, and inspired by true events, Essence Of Ireland tells a story of happiness and heartache through music, dance and song.
The show features original choreography and popular Irish songs, including Galway Girl, Irish Rover, Danny Boy, Molly Mallone and many more.
The cast is made up of multinational world-class dancers and talented singers, all of whom have Irish roots.
Creative director and co-writer Ged Graham, who was born in Dublin, said: “My Irish heritage is very special to me and really defines who I am. As an Irishman who has spent most of my adult life away from Ireland, I wanted to create a show that would give everybody an insight into being Irish.
“We set out to tell one man’s story that would really reflect the experience of every Irish man and woman who left Ireland’s shore, and most of all, a story that the audience would relate to. This, I believe, is the reason behind the success of the show to date, added to that the fact that us Irish folk don’t need an excuse for a party! It’s great craic.”
The shows comes to the Marlowe Studio on Wednesday, March 19 at 7.30pm. Tickets from £19.50. Call 01227 787787.
St Patrick’s Day is on Monday, March 17.
