Four Kent restaurants have been included in the Good Food Guide 2020, three of which are included for the first time.
The guide by Waitrose & Partners reveals the top places to dine in the UK, as well as looking at the best budget eateries, with three course meals for £30 or less.
Published on Thursday, September 12, the guide has named its Chef to Watch as Will Devlin from the Small Holding in Kilndown, near Cranbrook.
Elizabeth Carter said of him: “With a number of young chefs cooking to such a high standard, the Chef to Watch award was a tough judging assignment this year. But, ultimately, Will Devlin won our hearts. He has a simple formula: an instinctive feel for food, a refreshing down-to-earth approach with the emphasis on seasonality and quality - ingredients are grown in the restaurant’s own small holding or sourced locally.”
Will said: “I was blown away to find out I was in the guide as this year’s Chef to Watch. It’s an award that has been won by so many amazing chefs and people I really look up to.
“It’s great to have this kind of recognition in the Good Food Guide, I’m genuinely honoured.”
The Sportsman in Seasalter, features in the Top 50, coming in at No.37 in the country. The Michelin-starred seaside dining destination was also named the UK’s gastropub of the year in June this year.
The guide’s Top 50 recognises the very best talent in the country.
A place on the list represents a huge achievement, with each position earned by its score in The Good Food Guide, editor appraisal and the strength of reader feedback.
Three restaurants from the county have also made it in to the guide for the first time.
They are Whits of Walmer, near Deal, a fish and seafood restaurant; The Pig at Bridge, near Canterbury, which recently underwent an £8million refurbishment, and seafood bar Dory’s in Margate High Street.
The Good Food Guide is compiled by coupling reader feedback of eateries up and down the country with anonymous inspections by a team of experts. It is published by Waitrose & Partners and costs £17.99.
