Jasmin Colangelo is a winner and she’s taking it all as she stars in the West End’s Mamma Mia! which has been freshened up with a cast reshuffle.
The 22-year-old, who went to Hillview School for Girls in Tonbridge, has just returned from a 15-month international tour of the production.
She performs within the ensemble and is first cover for the character of Sophie, one of the leading roles.
“It keeps you on your toes and makes everything exciting,” she said. “Mamma Mia! is a great show because everybody can relate to it. It’s interesting as an actress because you’re portraying real life. The creative team are great because they let you discover your own characters.”
Growing up in Tunbridge Wells, Jasmin has always loved to perform and trained at Associates, her mother’s dance school, before moving to London at 16.
She made her West End debut in Les Misérables in 2000 and continued her professional training at Millennium Performing Arts in Woolwich. In 2012, she achieved one of her dreams, playing the role of Sillabub and being the understudy for Rumpleteazer in Cats.
Mamma Mia! will be Jasmin’s first West End role as an adult. She joined the international tour in September 2013 and says it was the best year of her life.
“It was so much fun and I met some amazing friends. The best place for me was Hong Kong. Everyone out there absolutely loves Mamma Mia!” she said.
Mamma Mia! is playing at London’s Novello Theatre and has extended its booking period until April next year. Tickets from £15 to £69.50. Visit www.mamma-mia.com or call 0844 4825115
