Changeling Theatre company will hold auditions for their 2018 Apprentice - who will be involved with the company's summer tour across the county - in April in Maidstone and Folkestone.
Previous apprentices have gone on to great things. Ellie Kendrick from Boughton Monchelsea near Maidstone started off in the Changeling’s Twelfth Night, and now plays the role of Meera Reed in Game of Thrones. She has also recently turned to playwriting and her new play debuted at the Royal Court this season.
Pip Carter from Medway, who played the part of Claudio in Much Ado about Nothing, went on to RADA and appeared alongside former Doctor Who Matt Smith in Party Animals, and is about to star in the world premiere of Joe Penhall’s new play Mood Music at The Old Vic.
The successful apprentice must be available throughout the outdoor summer tour of William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure and Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, which starts at Boughton Monchelsea on Friday, June 29 and ends on Sunday, August 19, and be prepared to travel to rehearsals in London and venues across the South East.
Artistic director Rob Forknall said: "The apprentice scheme is an important part of what we do as a proudly Kent-based theatre company.
"It has helped launch the acting careers of many local would-be young performers. Like previous years, we’re looking for someone who has aspirations to be an actor and would benefit from working with a professional cast and crew. They will learn the ropes and gain confidence in performing to large audiences in a wide range of unusual and interesting venues."
Last year’s winner was Cary Ryan from Maidstone, an A level drama student at Simon Langton Grammar School, now studying Drama at the University of Plymouth.
In return for their time, the apprentice will be offered on-the-job training and mentoring, and a young person’s railcard to help with travel costs. Rehearsals start on Tuesday, May 29.
The Maidstone auditions will be on Saturday, April 14 at the Hazlitt Theatre in Earl Street from 12.30pm to 3pm.
The Folkestone auditions will be at the Quarterhouse on Saturday, April 28 from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
To audition, you need to be between 17 and 22. To apply, email with a photo and some details including age, address and any acting experience, and whether you play a musical instrument, plus a brief reason why you would like to be the apprentice, to hello@changeling-theatre.com by Monday, April 9.
The tour heads to venues across the county including Folkestone Amphitheatre, Margate Beach and Biddenden Vineyard, as well as castles and gardens in Kent and further afield to Brighton Open Air Theatre.
