One of Kent’s biggest Pride events is set to go off with a nostalgic 1990s bang this summer.
Margate Pride, which takes place at the seaside town’s iconic Dreamland venue, will see B*Witched, Claire Richards and Duncan James take to the stage.
The one-day festival will give Kent’s LGBTQ+ community a chance to celebrate with a jam-packed programme of live entertainment on Saturday, August 12.
C'est la Vie singers B*Witched will headline the show with a performance of their pop anthems.
The Irish girl group topped the charts in the late ‘90s with a string of hits including Rollercoaster, To You I Belong and Blame It on the Weatherman.
The four-piece will be joined by Steps singer Claire Richards, Blue’s Duncan James and former So Solid Crew rapper Lisa Maffia, who has owned Margate’s Salon 48 on Canterbury Road since 2020.
Margate Pride will also feature a live bill of drag artists, such as RuPaul’s Drag Race UK stars Jonbers, Just May, Asttina Mandella and Le Fil, who will be performing throughout the day.
Drag performer River Medway, who grew up in Medway and appeared on the third series of the show, and non-binary writer and drag performer Tom Rasmussen are also set to appear.
Those who want to keep the party going can purchase tickets to the Margate Pride after-party, which will take place at Dreamland’s indoor venue, Hall By the Sea, and will be hosted by former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt.
The Pride party isn’t the only thing going on at Dreamland over the weekend as a huge soul concert is also taking place on Friday, August 11.
Back 2 Soul will be headlined by Dreams singer Gabrielle, best known for her debut 1993 single and her track Out of Reach, which featured on the soundtrack for Bridget Jones's Diary.
The vocalist, who is celebrating 30 years of No. 1 single Dreams, will be joined on the Scenic Stage by the musical collective Soul II Soul.
The group, who won a Grammy Award in 1990 with their hit Back to Life, recently performed in Kent at the Rochester Castle Concerts alongside Sugababes and the Lighthouse Family’s Tunde Baiyewu.
Back 2 Soul will also feature performances from CeCe Peniston, Julie McKnight and Alison Limerick.
You can book tickets to both Margate Pride and Back 2 Soul online here.
Back 2 Soul takes place between 5pm and 10pm. Children aged between 14 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
