Satire, spies and the Queen are all in the mix for hit comedy Single Spies.
Alan Bennett’s award-winning drama is a satirical snapshot of two members of the Cambridge Five – Guy Burgess, played by Nicholas Farrell, and Anthony Blunt, played by Downton Abbey’s David Robb – who were both recruited as spies by the Russians during the Cold War.
The comedy masterpiece, which comes to the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, also stars Belinda Lang, who was Bill Porter in the BBC sitcom 2Point4 Children.
Single Spies, which premiered in 1988 at the National Theatre, is made up of two plays.
An Englishman Abroad follows exiled spy Burgess and his chance meeting with actress Coral Browne in Moscow and A Question of Attribution, focuses on Blunt’s relationship with the Queen.
It is directed by Olivier Award-nominated Rachel Kavanaugh and on from Tuesday, March 8 to Saturday, March 12.
