Do you love Paris in the autumn? Fancy some moules-frites in Brussels’ spectacular Grande Place? Or maybe you’d like to explore French Flanders’ hidden gem, Lille?
If the answer to these questions is yes, and you are the parent of a budding Nigella Lawson or Ainsley Harriott, then kids kitchen contest Young Cooks could be just what your doctor ordered.
Run by the KM Charity Team, Young Cooks is a Masterchef-style competition that aims to unearth the best young kitchen talent from across the South-East.
And, thanks to Eurostar, one lucky contestant could be heading to the Continent for a gourmet break.
The names of people who submit entries to the competition by noon on September 1 will go into a prize draw for a pair of free tickets on the Eurostar.
Young Cooks is open to entrants aged six to 19. They are invited to submit ideas for dishes that are healthy and delicious.
There are cash prizes for primary school, secondary, family and overall champions, with a £200 top prize going to the overall winner.
The finalists will be invited to cook their dish for a VIP panel at the live final at East Kent College in Broadstairs.
The Young Cooks judging organisations are NFU Mutual, SE Medical, Golding Vision (part of Golding Homes), Orbit, Benenden Hospital Trust, Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Chequers Kitchen Cookery School, Licensing Consultancy Services, The Southern Co-operative, Whole School Meals, Brakes, East Kent College, and Macknade Fine Foods.
The aim of the competition is to develop the confidence and abilities of young people to prepare meals to a fixed budget, as well as to increase awareness of healthy options and locally grown Kentish produce.
