Three of the county’s most popular pumpkin patches are opening for the spooky season.
Pumpkin Moon will be once again welcoming visitors to pick their own pumpkins at their farms in Lower Rainham, Maidstone and Bapchild, with slots open from Saturday, October 8.
The pumpkin patches are open on weekends only until the October half term, at which time they will open daily from 10am to 4pm.
The fields contain more than 100 different varieties of pumpkin, squash and gourd, suitable for everything from Halloween jack-o-lanterns to cosy autumnal recipes.
Visitors can grab a wheelbarrow when you arrive at the farm and load it up with your choice of pumpkins on the field. You will be charged for what you have picked at the end, with prices depending on the size of the pumpkins.
Given the time of year, fancy dress is encouraged. There are lots of opportunities for snapping a selfie amongst the pumpkins to share on Instagram, so dress in your finest autumn attire and take the perfect Instagram photo.
There will also be street food and drinks available to purchase as you stroll through the fields.
The organisers advise that, while undamaged pumpkins and squash can be stored in a dry, cool place for months, you should keep your pumpkin inside once carved and rub petroleum jelly on the cut edges to make it last longer.
Any pumpkins left on the farm are given to the Gleaning Network and local animal sanctuaries, so nothing goes to waste.
The team behind Pumpkin Moon have been attracting visitors from across the county already this year with the opening of their giant mazes in the summer.
The Pumpkin Moon farms are open for pumpkin picking on select dates from Saturday, October 8 to Sunday, October 30. You will be given a time slot for arrival upon booking.
The Lower Rainham farm can be found at Lower Rainham Road, ME7 2YA; the Maidstone farm can be found at Old Chatham Road, ME14 3BE; and the Bapchild farm can be found at Fox Hill, ME9 9AB.
Tickets cost £2 per adult. Pumpkins are priced individually on the day. Book tickets online here.
