The groundbreaking rock musical RENT will complete its 20th anniversary tour with a final flourish in Kent.
The musical, which ran on Broadway for 12 years, tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive in New York City's East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian excess.
Inspired by Puccini’s classic opera La Boheme, the award-winning show comes to the Churchill Theatre, Bromley from Monday, February 6 to Saturday, February 11, with its final stop of the tour at the Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells from Tuesday, May 23 to Saturday, May 27.
The show by Jonathan Larson, which was adapted into a film in 2005, has won four Tony Awards, six Drama Desk Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1996.
Larson’s world is of a group of bohemian artists trying to maintain their friendships and their non-conformist ideals in New York. The poignancy of the story was heightened when Jonathan Larson died in January 1996, the night before the show’s first off-Broadway performance at New York Theatre Workshop.
The new production is choreographed by Lee Proud, with musical direction by Phil Cornwell.
