It was certainly an unusual start to a play: as the audience filed in for Beyond Cragporth Rock at the Marlowe Studio, we went past the six cast lying dead on the stage.
Freshly risen from their deaths, they spent the next hour and 10 minutes recounting the events which had led up to that event.
But if anyone was expecting it to be an average theatre production, they were in for a surprise, as it was far from that.
Award winning Haste Theatre specialise in innovative and creative, physical storytelling and boy, did it show.
Tense at times, funny at others, thought-provoking and dramatic, with the cast not pulling any punches, it was a surprise from beginning to end.
Atmosphere was added with a number of interesting lighting moods, clever use of props and a "freeze frame" technique which was very convincing.
The six sisters, who were all very different and their characters developed very quickly, spoke directly to us, the audience, individually, as the others were "frozen" which meant the whole thing felt very intimate and we felt personally involved.
There was the self-proclaimed leader Belinda (Jesse Dupre); Cordelia (Elly Beaman-Brinklow), the second in command; bold and boyish Oscar (Catherine Self), quiet Edith (Elena Costanzi), quirky Verity (Sophie Taylor) and the youngest, Maggie (Anna Plasberg-Hill).
All six played their very diverse roles unswervingly and with passion.
If you're looking for a bit of light entertainment, black comedy Beyond Cragporth Rock isn't what you're looking for. If you're after something which you'll still be puzzling over the next morning, it's a treat.
The show is also on tonight (Friday) at the studio.
