The travelling cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang put on a spectacular show at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury on their opening night.
From the moment the curtain rose on Mr Coggins' junkyard, with the eponymous car centre stage; it was clear this was going to be special.
With an all-star cast including Lee Mead, of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat fame, they have really pulled out all of the stops to make this a memorable performance.
Lee plays charming, dashing and humble inventor Caractacus Potts, and boy does he play it well- you really do believe every word he says as he pours his heart out into the performance and dances the quick moving steps with ease.
Another stand out performance came from Carrie Hope Fletcher, who previously starred in Les Miserables as Eponine in the West End, who takes on the role of Truly Scrumptious. Carrie hit every note bang on and delivered the sweet role perfectly.
Phill Jupitus was a surprise for me, with his hilarious portrayal of Baron Bomburst. It was very clear he's a big fan of the musical, and really looked at home on stage.
I have never been so impressed as I was by the sheer confidence of the child actors as well- they were spectacular.
This crowd-pleasing and charming show brought back childhood memories for me, of watching the original film back when I was five or six, transporting me instantly back.
I must also take this chance to mention that the child-catcher was as terrifying as ever and it appears I am still mentally scarred from seeing him when watching Chitty on video as a young girl...
I was blown away by the heartfelt performances of the cast and the way the musical classic was translated effortlessly to the theatre.
As well as all of this, the crowd really got involved- cheering on Potts and Truly as they ran from the evil Vularians and booing the childcatcher.
With glorious stage design and some really clever dance numbers (Ol’ Bamboo was a personal favourite), anyone looking for a feel-good show for the whole family should definitely go and watch it.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is at the Marlowe Theatre until September 3. For more information or to book tickets, visit www.marlowetheatre.com
