Muscles were rippling, girls were screaming, money was floating in the air and “Channing Tatum was in us all”.
It could only mean one thing, Magic Mike Live.
The stage show is produced by actor Channing Tatum who stars in the original films Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL.
Leaving our respective husband and boyfriend safely at home, my mum, sister and I were pretty giddy on our way to the show.
Yes, I was going to what is essentially my first ever strip show with my mum, but Magic Mike Live is so much more than that.
We entered through the Hippodrome’s swanky casino. I was expecting a theatre, instead we were met with a dimly lit saloon bar, the air seemed smoky, it was just like the film.
It was filled with women, undeniably ecstatic to be there and one unbelievably loyal, long-suffering boyfriend, at what looked like a 21st birthday party.
Comedian David Morgan, best known for presenting I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! Now! leapt onto the stage and launched into hilarious verbal attacks on each audience member in the front row.
He denounced a divorcee's gay marriage, cattily criticised clothing and dropped sexual references with such speedy wit that everyone was screaming in delight. Then he brought out the men.
Four full-on hunks leapt on to the stage in YMCA costumes, and all the girls squealed.
They picked up a rather nervous audience member and the Fireman squirted a huge amount of white silly string all over her.
Suddenly something very weird happened.
She seemed to be possessed, the lights went down, the dancers stopped dancing and she took centre stage.
There were lots audience members looking around and wondering “is she alright?”.
Then the deep voice of Channing Tatum, the original Magic Mike, boomed across the bar.
He was a ‘magic unicorn’ and would grant her all the wishes she wanted.
While it was a strange concept, the unicorn signified more sexy dancing men, some from up north, a surfer dude, an Adidas model, and none of us ladies were complaining.
Then from every nook and cranny of the theatre, unbelievably attractive men appeared on the stage.
Their jawlines were strong, their hair was perfectly quiffed, or cropped or in ungroomed man buns.
Their muscles were bulging, their, er, bulges were bulging.
Aside from everyone being incredibly buff, their dancing was incredible.
We were charmed by Maxwell Trengove's tap dancing, in awe at Jake Brewer's high rope performance and wowed at Sebastián Melo Taviera steamy and wet duet with dancer Hannah Cleave.
We left the show feeling exhilerated, my mum getting more action than she had had in the last five years.
My sister was over her secondary school crush and had fallen in love with dancer Aaron Witter.
Would I recommend? Definitely... and especially after a few drinks.
Should you go with your mum? Only if you feel comfortable watching the more sensual scenes together.
