Reliving your teenage years may not sound like a barrel of laughs, but looking back on them fondly is quite different.
Jackie the Musical takes its inspiration from the 70s and 80s magazine, Jackie, and the days of problem pages and teenage angst before the support of social media and texting.
A divorcee turns to her well-thumbed magazines in later life, looking for answers about the age-old problem of handling the opposite sex, with advice from agony aunts Cathy and Claire.
Told with narration and flashbacks, Jackie the Musical is a heady mix of music, dance and lots and lots of laughs that will have you up on your feet and singing along by the end.
The empowering tale may not have all the answers - does anyone? - but the mostly female audience at the Orchard Theatre in Dartford had a night out to leave them buzzing.
With retro choreography from the woman who brought us Hot Gossip, Arlene Phillips, dancing, and some of the era's most memorable hits, it was a sure-fire hit with the audience, not to mention a plot that had the audience praying for a happy ending.
Despite the subject matter, don't expect a downbeat show - it was a laugh a minute.
It stars Tricia Adele-Turner as Gemma, who lives in Stone, Janet Dibley, who plays Jackie and co-starred with Nicholas Lyndhurst in ITV’s The Two of Us and Nicholas Bailey, best known for playing Anthony Trueman in EastEnders.
The show runs at the Orchard Theatre until Saturday, June 18. To book tickets visit orchardtheatre.co.uk or call 01322 220000.
