She’s known to many as She Who Bakes.
But Britt Whyatt doesn’t just bake – she runs her own business, blogs about it and now writes books about it too.
The multi-tasker extraordinaire started her business from scratch almost by accident six years ago with no goals to work towards.
Today, she works from home near Sittingbourne, baking and blogging about baking to her 13,200 followers on Instagram and 12,000 followers on Twitter.
Now she has published her first book, Cakes, Bakes & Business, giving an insight into the secrets of building a successful cake-making business.
She said: “I accidentally started a business really. I could bake pretty cakes, then when I was made redundant I kind of fell into making cakes for people. Then I stopped that in 2015 to focus on teaching cake decorating.”
In her book, she covers topics including getting your kitchen ready, pricing your cakes, marketing and managing customers.
She said: “When I started my home-baking business I struggled to find a simple guide that had all the information I needed in one place. I wanted to write this book to help others avoid the mistakes I made by sharing my stories, my secrets and making them smile along the way.”
She added: “I wanted to write the business book I wish I had at the start.”
Packed with anecdotes and supportive messages from someone who has been there, the guide is aimed at showing others how to make their cake- baking business dreams a reality.
Britt writes recipes for brands and supermarkets, articles and tutorials and also has a blogging consultancy, with which she helps small businesses with blogs promote what they do and improve their engagement online.
“Social media has been the backbone of everything I have done,” she said. “Without it, I wouldn’t have a business.”
