Award-winning West End production Shrek The Musical is coming to Kent.
The larger-than-life musical will be at Canterbury's Marlowe Theatre in February 2015, as part of its first UK tour.
Based on the story and characters from William Steig’s book Shrek! and the Oscar-winning animated movie, the London production opened in 2011 starring Nigel Lindsay as Shrek, Richard Blackwood as Donkey, Nigel Harman as Lord Farquaad and Amanda Holden as Princess Fiona.
Casting for the touring production is still to be announced, but it will be directed by Nigel Harman, who won the 2012 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.
Tour producers Caro Newling of Neal Street Productions, and Nick Salmon of Playful Productions, said: “We are very excited to bring Shrek The Musical to the Marlowe Theatre. It has thrilled audiences all over the world with its boundless enthusiasm and fun – we know that the people of Kent will take Shrek to their hearts, just as we did at Drury Lane.”
Shrek The Musical will be at the Marlowe Theatre from Wednesday, February 11 to Sunday, March 1, 2015.
