Kent Webb Sisters to perform at Black Deer, Americana music festival near Tunbridge Wells

Two sisters from Kent who've played with some of the greats of the music world are among the line-up for a new Americana music festival coming to the county.

The Webb Sisters, who grew up in Sevenoaks, will join movie star and musician Kiefer Sutherland, Ashley Campbell, the daughter of Glenn Campbell and Nashville star Sam Palladio at the Black Deer Festival in Eridge near Tunbridge Wells this June.

Sisters Charley and Hattie come to the festival fresh from joining the late Tom Petty and his Heartbreakers band for their final world tour last year.

The musical duo cut their teeth writing and recording in Nashville and California, and their sound has attracted praise from high up, with it being described as "sublime” by Leonard Cohen and "sensational” by Sir Terry Wogan.

They were invited to sing on Sting’s album If On a Winter’s Night and represented the United Kingdom at America’s 400th anniversary celebrations, singing alongside the likes of Dolly Parton and Chrissie Hynde.

Born into a family of musicians the pair are multi-instrumentalists and songwriters, with Charley often playing guitar and Hattie harp arrangements, with the pair both singing.

They have recorded three albums, and have achieved album, single and record of the week on iTunes and BBC Radio Two.

The pair now lives about 10 minutes' walk away from eachother in London.

Charley said of joining the line-up: "We are very excited to be part of Black Deer. It is very much that world we enjoy and also to be back on our home turf.

"We absolutely jumped at it. To be involved in an Americana event is very much our music inspiration and roots.

"At Black Deer we will be playing some of our material and new songs... and also some surprises!"

She added: "It's also brilliant to be back in Kent at the height of the summer in a place like that. Although even if the weather isn't great and we need our wellies, the good old Brits will make the most of it and have a wonderful time, regardless of the weather."

So, if they get time between their own sets, who on the line-up are they most looking forward to seeing perform?

"Iron & Wine - we love him!"

The line-up for the first Black Deer Festival also includes Passenger, Jess and The Bandits, Robert Vincent, Steak and double Grammy and AMA UK award winner Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit.

The three day festival will showcase artists from Americana, blues, roots, authentic country, folk and bluegrass genres over five stages and alongside the music will be Americana-style meats, smokey whiskeys, bespoke custom motorcycle showcases and rooted storytelling from cultural pioneers.

Promoter for Black Deer Festival, Gill Tee said: “The UK really does boast some superb up and coming performers and Black Deer is proud to be giving them a platform.”
