New wave band Squeeze are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a huge nationwide tour.

The group have added a handful of extra dates to their 2024 tour, including a night in Kent - and tickets go on sale at 10am on this Friday (December 15).

After announcing an initial string of tour dates earlier this year, Squeeze have since revealed that they will be performing at eight additional venues, including Folkestone’s Leas Cliff Hall on Thursday, November 21.

The pop-rock band rose to fame in the 1970s and released a number of successful singles throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, such as Up the Junction, Cool for Cats, Another Nail in My Heart and Hourglass.

The tunes, which were written by vocalist Glenn Tilbrook and guitarist Chris Difford, continued into the 1990s with songs including Play, Some Fantastic Place, Ridiculous and Domino.

The band split in 1999, with members going on to have their own solo careers, most notably keyboardist Jools Holland who has presented TV shows The Tube, Later with Jools Holland and Jools' Annual Hootenanny.

The blues singer and pianist, who lives just outside of Rochester, will not be performing with the band at next year’s anniversary concerts.

During the tour, original members Glenn and Chris will be joined by bassist Owen Biddle, guitarist Melvin Duffy, percussionist Steve Smith, keyboardist Stephen Large and drummer Simon Hanson.

The band will be supporting food bank charity the Trussell Trust during the tour by inviting fans to bring along food donations, where there will be collection points at each venue.

There will also be collection buckets available for cash donations, which will go towards supporting people who use the charity’s 1,300 food bank centres across the country.

Mercury Prize-winning songwriter and musician Badly Drawn Boy will be supporting Squeeze on their tour next year.
