Last night Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton and EastEnders' Maisie Smith took to the stage for their first night in Canterbury for Strictly Ballroom.
The whole cast delivered a witty and dazzling performance at the Marlowe Theatre to begin their six nights in the city.
Based on the award-winning film phenomenon, the story sees rebellious young ballroom dancer, Scott Hastings (Kevin Clifton) make his own rules on the dance floor.
But, this lands the dancer in trouble with the Australian Federation leaving him without a dance partner for a major competition which his mother is determined to see him win.
The conflict between Scott and the Australian Federation leads him to meet dance beginner Fran (Maisie Smith) who, after hearing he is without a partner, says she wants to dance with him.
At first, the pair step on each other's toes but, after hard work, dedication, and some spectacular dancing, the pair defy tradition and discover it is all about feeling the rhythm of the music.
After showing off their new steps, the couple find that their dance moves do not need to be 'strictly ballroom'.
The show features well-known songs including Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps, Time After Time, and Love Is In The Air as well as new songs by internationally-acclaimed artists including Sia, David Foster and Eddie Perfect.
This performance was packed with sparkle, laughs and incredible dancing.
Each and every single dancer shone on the stage and impressed the crowd - especially Strictly's very own Kevin Clifton.
Equally, the passion and energy in the number which saw Fran's father show off his dance moves gave me goosebumps. It was a powerful performance which ended the first act and left me eager to see what the rest of the show would bring.
Maisie's singing was second to none and her performance of Beautiful Surprise was absolutely gorgeous. Her voice is soft yet powerful and absolutely wonderful to listen to.
Her dance skills were also incredible and it was brilliant to see what she had learnt from her time on Strictly Come Dancing come to life on the stage last night.
Prior to the show, the former EastEnders star posted on her Instagram of her excitement to play Fran for the final two weeks of the tour.
She wrote on her story: "So amazing to hear that we are 97% sold this week. Thank you Canterbury."
I would certainly recommend a night out under the glitterball to see this show if you can still get your hands on some tickets!
It is an impressive production which left everyone wanting to dance.
The show will be at the Marlowe Theatre until Saturday, March 18. You can book tickets online here or call 01227 787787.
Come the finale of the show, everyone was clapping along with joy under the glitter ball and as the director Craig Revel Horwood would say; it was fab-u-lous!
