Strictly stars Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice are joining forces for an unforgettable live dance experience.
The two professional dancers are teaming up to perform their hit new show, Him and Me, at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells.
Anton, who has been on the Saturday night show since its launch in 2004, has partnered with the likes of Judy Murray, Emma Barton and, of course, his infamous 2010 season with Ann Widdicombe.
Giovanni joined the cast of dancers more than a decade later in 2015 and, last year, lifted the glitterball trophy with EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis. The pair won a BAFTA for Must-See Moment after their performance on the show.
“What me and Rose achieved together is bigger than anything we ever expected,” says Giovanni. “We raised awareness for the deaf community, and obviously dancing together was wonderful. It wasn’t just the dance, it was the message that we put out there. I was privileged to be dancing with someone like Rose.”
Anton and Giovanni are now hoping to bring more magic moments to the stage with their tour.
“We’re holding nothing back,” says Anton, who recently swapped his dancing shoes for the judges’ panel on the BBC One show. “It’s everything we love to do but also, we’re doing it together. The audience gets to see part of our personalities and relationship with each other as well as all-singing, all-dancing.”
“Anton is a total legend,” adds Giovanni. “I always wanted to tour with him and last year we finally made it happen.”
The Sicily-born dancer is known for his show-stopping choreography but, for the Him and Me tour, he is trying his hand at something new.
“I’m attempting to sing,” says Giovanni. “I’m still taking lessons. I like to sing like Whitney Houston when I’m In the shower, but realistically it doesn’t sound like that when I’m on stage!”
However, fans have nothing to worry about as the show is still going to be jam-packed with the pair’s trademark Latin and ballroom routines.
“We often get asked, where do you start when creating a show? First you get a team together,” explains Anton. “Then, you go through the audition process, get all the dancers in and pick the choreography. You then shape the show, and once you’ve got all of that together, get into the rehearsal studio.”
“Once we’re in the theatre, it’s just fun! It doesn’t even feel like we’re working,” adds Giovanni. “It’s just a night out. Once we’re in full swing of the tour it’s the audience that give you the strength to go forward every night.
“Every audience is different, so every show will be different.”
Him and Me will be at the Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells, on Monday, July 11. Book tickets online here or call 01892 530 613.
