At 10.15pm on Saturday 1st June, the Place des Anges spectacle unfolds at Place d'Armes, one of Calais's grandest squares. Presented by the Gratte Ciel company, this mesmerising aerial acrobatics show marks the opening of the 2024 summer season, promising an unforgettable experience for all.
Another highlight of the summer calendar is the Olympic torch relay, heralding the start of the 2024 Games. Calais hosts the torch on 3rd July, before it journeys onward to Saint-Omer, Boulogne, Berck-sur-Mer and Arras. To celebrate the torch's arrival on 2nd July, the Night of the Flame ignites the city with festivities, featuring a lively DJ set and vibrant colour wheels spinning into the night.
Paris hosts a jam-packed calendar of sporting events
All eyes will be on Paris this summer as the world’s top athletes from over 200 countries descend on the city for the greatest sporting event of all time. But the excitement doesn't stop there. Throughout Paris, as well as across the region and country, a multitude of additional sporting spectacles will unfold.
Among the most anticipated events are the athletics competitions held at the renowned Stade de France, where throngs of spectators will witness the drama unfold live, while millions more tune in worldwide. Highlights of the ultimate athletics showdown of 2024 will encompass thrilling contests such as the 100m sprints, 4 x 100m relays, captivating long jump competitions and the exhilarating city-wide marathon.
The summer calendar is further enriched by the prestigious Tour de France (29th June- 21st July) and the Tour de France Femme (12th - 18th August), along with the esteemed French Open Tennis Championship commencing on 20th May.
What’s more, the world's leading automakers are gearing up for the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, a pivotal event in the FIA World Endurance Championship season, taking place on 15th-16th June.
Venture to Germany for the 2024 UEFA Euros

As a rough estimate, driving from Calais to the western regions of Germany, such as Cologne or Düsseldorf, would take approximately 5-6 hours by car, and closer to 8-9 hours if you’re travelling to cities further east, like Berlin or Munich. You could even plan a few stops in France along the way!
