If you fancy a refreshing ride out this weekend, while also supporting a local cause, Ride and Stride could be right up your street - or country lane.
The annual event, which is the single largest source of income for many historic churches, is held on the second Saturday of September and, despite the disruption through the year so far, the 2020 event is keeping to the calendar.
How it works
Riders plan their own routes along the picturesque highways and byways of the county, stopping at historic churches and chapels they choose to from a list of ones which will be open for the day. Some 700 are open to welcome visitors on two wheels.
Participants collect sponsorship money, half of which goes to the church or chapel of their choice, and half to the Friends of Kent Churches, who distribute it by grant aid to churches which need it the most around the county. Last year’s event raised more than £140,000 - raised by more than 850 riders and walkers, who visited an average of 12 churches each.
