As things hot up in the Great British Bake Off tent for this year’s contestants, one of last year’s finalists will be coming to the county.
Creative cook Kim-Joy Hewlett will be at Bluewater at noon on Saturday, September 28, with her new book Baking With Kim-Joy which includes tips for basic cake mixes, biscuit doughs, fillings, and frostings.
Known for her unique cake designs on the Channel 4 show last year, Kim-Joy's book has shared 40 designs for iced biscuit creatures including a llama cookie, cat paradise cake, character macaroons and meringues, ornate breads and showstopping tray bakes.
Her advice for facing judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood for this year’s bakers?
“People always say, ‘Just be yourself, believe in yourself’, but that’s really hard to do in practice,” she said. “I’d say that it’s going to be tough, and to expect that it’s going to be tough, but it’s worth it. However well you do, however far you get, you’ve done well just to be on there,” she adds.
"A lot of the advice I got was, 'Just enjoy it', but I don't know if I really found that helpful, because sometimes you feel pressure to enjoy it, and you feel like, 'Oh, am I not enjoying it?' And there's nothing you can do about it.
"Maybe just let it be - whatever you feel, you feel. Just accept it."
Fans must have a copy of her book, Baking With Kim-Joy: Cute And Creative Bakes To Make You Smile, which costs £18.99, to meet Kim-Joy at Bluewater. For further information contact Waterstones Bluewater on 01322 624831.
