From livestock to traditional crafts and displays of duck “herding” to locally-grown produce – the Kent County Show has it all.
Back at the Kent Showground in Detling next month, the event promises hundreds of exhibits, arena events and displays.
Organisers the Kent County Agricultural Show will be holding this year’s three-day event on Friday, July 12, Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14.
Joseph’s Amazing Racing Camels will be picking up the pace twice a day, while there will be two showjumping competitions every day, while you can also see bloodhounds and a grand parade of livestock in the Astor Ring.
There’s also a country and game area which promises the “Sheep Show Shuffle” and the Hawking Centre’s Birds of Prey will be flying twice a day.
The sky will also be the scene for a special flypast of the Kent Spitfire and, on the Saturday, it will be joined by a Hurricane.
Our four-legged friends will be well represented with a Dash N’ Splash event organised by Paws in the Park, while you can enter your own canine pals into Scruffts, a competition for cross-breed dogs, which could see yours end up at Crufts.
There will also be music at the bandstand next to the picnic area, with 1920s and 30s-style Casablanca Steps and Muddy River Soul and Blues Band entertaining the crowds.
Show manager Lucy Hegarty from the Kent County Agricultural Society, said: “A day out is exactly what it should be, a whole day. The Kent County Show opens at 8am and closes at 6pm and we have entertainment throughout the day.
“The food and the animals at the Kent County Show are always what brings in the crowds but when they are here there is much more. We have almost entertainment fro show opening until close as well as nearly 400 stands and exhibitors.”
You can buy a family ticket for £37, which would be £45 on the gate. For details visit www.kentshowground.co.uk
An eight-page supplement packed with details of the show's programme will be included free with the Friday, July 5 edition of What's On.
