Dust off your treasures for a free day out which might even end with the all-important intake of breath and “How much..?” moment.

BBC1’s ever-popular Antiques Roadshow is coming to Kent on Thursday, June 16, and anyone can go along.

Specialists will be on hand to offer free advice and valuations to visitors who can bring along family heirlooms, household treasures and car boot sale bargains.

Presenter Fiona Bruce said: “The best part of working on Antiques Roadshow is that we never know who or what is going to turn up on the day. The visitors, the objects they bring, their stories and the location all combine to make a fabulous experience that we aim to capture for the viewers.

“If you are a fan of Antiques Roadshow, curious to see behind the scenes, or just fancy a day out, dig out your treasures and come along – we’d love to see you!”

In 2015 almost 35,000 people went along to filming during the year.

Fascinating finds included a jacket owned by former US president John Kennedy, a musical penknife which was valued at £80,000, a sketch thought to be by Picasso and a toy panda that once flew with the Dambusters.

Executive editor Simon Shaw said: “We are delighted to be filming at Ightham Mote. The charming moated manor house and lovely location should make for a great show and we are all looking forward to it.

“We love nothing better than hearing people’s stories and seeing what items they bring, so we hope as many people as possible come along.

“Even after 39 years, the magic formula of surprising some lucky guests with exciting news about their treasures is still a thrill for us, the visitors and the viewers.”

This year marks the 39th year for Antiques Roadshow.
The show still attracts an average of six million viewers each Sunday.
The episode filmed at Walmer Castle, which was aired in November, 2015, was the highest rated episode in three years, achieving an audience of 6.8m.
The show has been to a number of places in Kent: Leeds Castle in 2008, the Historic Dockyard, Chatham in 2013, and Walmer Castle last year.

The Antiques Roadshow will be at the National Trust’s Ightham Mote, near Borough Green, on Thursday, June 16.

Doors open at 9.30am and close at 4.30pm. Entry is free, no tickets or pre-registration is required.
