From Les Miserables to Gilbert and Sullivan via Mary Poppins – the Top Choir Kent 2017 will take you on a musical journey this weekend.
The contest, which showcases some of the best amateur choirs in the county, will hold its Songs from the Shows themed concert at the Shirley Hall in Canterbury on Saturday, April 8.
The event compere will be BBC weather girl Nina Ridge.
Nina, who lives in Tunbridge Wells, presented the weather forecasts on BBC1 and Radio 4, for 15 years.
"Music has always been a big part of my life. I play the clarinet and when I was younger I played in the West Kent Youth Orchestra," she said.
"Top Choir Kent has a reputation for providing a stage for some of the best choirs in the county and I am very much looking forward to being part of it."
There are six choirs taking part in the concert from all around Kent, including Monday Music, the Elham Valley Voices and the Simon Langton Boys Grammar School Chamber Choir from Canterbury; Just Voices and The Kentones from Bromley and the Pharos Chamber Choir from Dover.
Martin Ward, president of organisers the Rotary Club of Canterbury, said: "Traditionally Top Choir Kent attracts the cream of amateur choirs in Kent and this year is no exception. The Songs from the Shows theme guarantees an entertaining evening to suit all musical tastes.
"All the choirs will take to the stage at the end to sing a specially commissioned arrangement of Do You Hear the People Sing, from Les Miserables. It promises to be very special.”
The annual festival includes a competitive edge, as one of the choirs performing will be selected to take part in the 2017 Big Sing at the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, later this month.
