Catchy is an understatement when it comes to the worldwide hit of last year, All About That Bass.
The songwriting talent behind the smash is Meghan ‘I-ain’t-no-size-two-but-I-can-shake-it-like-I’m-supposed-to’ Trainor, and we’ve got an exclusive interview with hot property Meghan on kmfm Breakfast with Garry and Emma!
Tune in on Friday, January 30, to get the inside track from the 21-year-old pop phenomenon, whose video’s been watched over 300 Million times on YouTube.
In the meantime, here’s a little of what Meghan has to tell presenters Garry and Emma about talent, fame, singledom and fab hair...
Garry: “With this song, you must be getting a million people a day telling me that you’re awesome, inspiring...”
Meghan:“...that I’m beautiful, that they wanna date me: I know, you’d think?!”
Garry: “Is that not happening? Don’t lie to us.”
Meghan:“I’m getting it a lot from the radio stations, and it’s such a confidence booster! I’m lovin’ this, I could do this all day! What a great job. But no, I’m still single, isn’t that BIZARRE?!”
Emma: “With hair like yours, it’s crazy you should be single. I’ve got hair envy every time I see your videos.”
Meghan:“Oh honey, I paid so much for this, you have no idea.”
Garry: “Okay so you’re looking for love, you’re upset you haven’t found it. Would you like to put together a little showreel of your interests, your hobbies, what you might find attractive..?”
Emma: “This is your lonely hearts ad.”
Meghan: “Hi there, this is Meghan Trainor. I’m a 21-year-old beautiful, talented, successful woman who’s just looking for a mate, you know? I like long walks on the beach, movies, pizza, laughs. Check me out, I’m available.”
Emma: “Can I check for clarity, what is your favourite pizza flavour, because these things matter?”
Meghan: “Okay, plain cheese. I’m just a plain simple girl with a big heart for two.”
Garry: “No anchovies?”
Meghan: “Urgh, no! Never!”
Garry: “Look, you’ve got two Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year – what’s the difference?”
Meghan: “Bro, honestly: I called my parents and I was like, ‘Hey, what’s the difference? I know I’m nominated and I’m cool but I have no idea what is going on!’ I think Record of the Year is like the production and the sound of it, and then Song of the Year is like the songwriting – either way I know I’m going up for both!”
Emma: “Your new album came out this week called Title. Didn’t you start as a songwriter, so it must be a bit weird suddenly being the actual pop star up the front doing the singing as well?”
Meghan: “I love it though, I love that my face is on all the plaques I’m receiving at my house. I look bomb – I can’t wait to be 70 and be like, ‘Dang, I looked good when I was 21!’ I love it. My life is upside down and completely different but I’m killing the game, I’ve got this.”
Garry: “One of the tracks is called 3am. That happens to be the time I get up for work to do the breakfast show. So what’s 3am for you?”
Meghan: “3am is when you’re partying with your friends at my age and you don’t have anyone to go home with and you’re so lonely and single, and then you drunk-text your ex, which is a terrible mistake but you do it anyways because you’re so confident and tipsy. So it’s for all my homegirls and homeboys, just know I’m right there with you.”
Garry: “At least I know what’s happening now when I get up for a hard day’s work, that’s filled me in on what’s happening.”
Meghan: “We’re just drunk and sad and crying, that’s what!”
Emma: “Meghan, you know now that Garry is up at 3am, so next time you’re up at 3am and want to do drunk-texting, we’ll give him your number and you two could hook up.”
Meghan: “You could be my booty call!”
Emma: “That’s the best offer you’ve ever had, Garry, EVER!”
Garry: “It’s the only offer I’ve ever had...”
