BeanTown

The only eatery on our list that can’t be found on Rochester high street, BeanTown is a great choice of affordable pitstop on your way in or out of town. This unassuming local cafe has recently been refurbished and, while the outside might not jump out at first glance, the inside is modern, fresh and spacious. It rarely feels crowded, even during the busier times of day, and the staff do their best to make you feel like a regular customer right from your first visit - perfect for those who prefer a calmer pace for their coffee runs. The menu is full of classic cafe options with fresh-to-order flavours, including mouth-watering chili jam paninis, hearty breakfast baps and seasonal coffees that could rival any of the big chains.

The Cheese Room Botanicals

With a name that pretty much sums up what you’ll find here, the Cheese Room Botanicals is a cosy yet contemporary bar and cafe serving an array of cheesy delights. With a lunchtime menu of small plates, toasties and cheese boards, as well as a drinks menu featuring more than 100 gins and draught beers on tap, it’s easy to while away the hours here - especially with a fantastic view of Rochester castle to accompany you. Their famous sourdough toasties start from £5.50, but any one of their generous mac and cheese dishes will set you back just £7.

This charming bakery will lure you in with its traditional pâtisserie decor, cheerful, chatty staff and eye-catching window displaying row upon row of delicious cakes and pastries. Tony Lorenzo’s boasts old-fashioned favourites such as cherry bakewells and custard tarts, many of which can be found for less than £5, as well as Mint Aero brownies and homemade Italian tiramisu.
