Tunbridge Wells: Slaves, Radio 1's Annie Mac, Jake Bugg and Kate Tempest play LeeFest Presents The Neverland

Slaves have been announced as the special secret guests for this week's LeeFest Presents The Neverland.

The punk two-piece of former Oakwood Park pupil Laurie Vincent, from Maidstone, and former Hugh Christie pupil Isaac Holman from Southborough, join a line-up which features one of dance music’s supreme selectors, Annie Mac, known for her high-octane live shows and being Radio 1’s champion of new music, who will play the festival near Tunbridge Wells on Saturday, August 12.

Also headlining the festival - known for its big name acts, new music but not forgetting its humble beginnings in Lee’s parents’ back garden in 2006, now attracting some 5,000 revellers annually - is Jake Bugg.

Straight out of Nottingham, Jake became a household name following his debut album. His critically acclaimed latest album, On My One, is a departure from his folk roots, and combines his love of hip-hop with an infectious brand of 1970s pop.

Former Mercury prize nominee Kate Tempest tops the bill on the first day of the three-day festival. The 31-year-old from south London is an accomplished playwright, novelist, poet and respected recording artist.

Aussie born and Berlin-based five-piece, Parcels will bring their funk pop feelgood tracks to the event, along with Zak Abel, fresh from two sell-out London shows.

Special guests will be Wild Beasts, known for kaleidoscopic guitar rhythms and lyrics you can scream at the top of your lungs, while hip-hop collective Jungle will be taking over Wonderland’s Beach Stage with other acts including Zane Lowe-approved Fickle Friends, Bad Sounds, Strong Asian Mothers, Fish and Keston Cobblers Club.

There will be three realms at The Neverland, where revellers enter worlds under the rule of a different tribe. The Mermaids are the queens of Mermaids Lagoon, Pirates reign supreme at Skull Ridge and the Lost Boys of The Neverwoods are the practical jokers.

Also on offer will be shape-shifting dance troupes, glitter-fuelled games, real beach parties, comedy, arts and craft workshops and a cinema.

Organisers have also teased an “extra special, secret performance” by a Kent-born outfit.
