Two one-day festivals have been announced as part of a huge summer concert series on the Kent coast.
Soul and reggae spectacular Down By the Sea with headliners Fat Freddy’s Drop and disco extravaganza Love Unlimited featuring Sister Sledge are coming to Dreamland as part of the Margate Summer Series.
The first of the two all-dayers, Down By the Sea, will feature a headline set from New Zealand techno-soul collective Fat Freddy’s Drop.
The seven-piece group, who performed at Rochester Castle last year, will return to the county for a headline set on Dreamland’s outdoor Scenic Stage.
They will be joined by pioneering reggae DJ David Rodigan, hip-hop group the Herbaliser Band, modern jazz band Nubiyan Twist and electronic dub collective Gentleman’s Dub Club throughout the day.
Down By the Sea will be at Dreamland on Saturday, August 17. Tickets go on sale on Friday, March 15 at 9am and be booked online here.
Also recently announced as part of the Margate Summer Series is Love Unlimited, a new all-day celebration of disco music.
The group will perform some of their biggest hits, including We Are Family, Lost In Music and He’s the Greatest Dancer.
Funk outfit Shalamar, French music producer DJ Dimitri, innovative dance group Crazy P and Hot Chip founder Joe Goddard will also be performing on Saturday, September 21.
Rob Waller, founder and programmer of the Margate Summer Series said: “It is very exciting to create two new events as part of the Margate Summer Series.
“Teaming up with Fat Freddy’s Drop, we’ve created Down By The Sea to bring you a day of pioneering sounds across reggae, hip-hop and jazz.
“Our hope is that Love Unlimited really does bring the love for the final days of summer. An event intended to celebrate inclusiveness, it will balance legends against some of the best DJs in the game. It will be an incredible culmination of disco artists, including the phenomenal Sister Sledge and Shalamar - this will be a truly great way to end this series and the summer.”
Scottish pop-rock band Deacon Blue have also recently been announced as part of the Margate Summer Series.
They will perform on Friday, June 28 and join the line-up alongside the likes of Bryan Adams, Limp Bizkit, Becky Hill, Busted and Paloma Faith.
