Twinkling lights. A cup of hot, fragrant mulled wine. Strolling through dazzling street markets while shopping for the perfect Christmas gifts. Doesn’t this sound wonderful?
The things that make the festive season special were in short supply last year. However, in 2021, the magic is back, and Brits can even travel to other European countries to soak up the culture and atmosphere.
If you’re thinking about heading away this winter, France is a popular choice for individuals, friends, couples and families alike. It’s relatively close to home, and if you opt to travel with P&O Ferries, there are some excellent offers available.
From now until 14th December, a day trip can be booked for £49. With up to 23 sailings a day at peak times, unbeatable on-board services and friendly staff to help out every step of the way, it’s never been easier to get a ferry to France with the Dover to Calais crossing.
So, what are some of the highlights of sailing to northern France with P&O Ferries?
Christmas markets
The Christmas markets in the north of France are set to be a spectacular affair. During the second week of December, at Calais’ Place d’Armes, a snow village is being created using real snow. A 40-metre ski slope will welcome children and adults and there will be plenty of carousel stands, sweets and roasted chestnuts to indulge in.
The Christmas market at Lille, roughly an hour’s journey from Calais, sees the town decked out in beautiful, coloured lights and a huge crown of garlands. Visitors can experience the festivities from Friday 19 November to Thursday 30 December between 11am and 8.30pm.
Another short drive away is the Christmas market at La Grand Place, Arras. The city, which is renowned for its tapestries of the late Middle Ages, becomes home to 60 stalls offering a selection of arts and crafts-style gifts, as well as local delicacies.
There’s also the stunning, traditional Béthune Christmas Market, which is about an 80km drive from Calais, and Amiens Christmas Market, one of the largest Christmas markets in northern France. With its 130 chalets that stretch for over 2km, it has an impressive choice
of gift ideas.
World Duty Free store
Passengers keen to explore the on-board facilities can head to P&O’s World Duty Free store, which will feature all the latest Christmas deals and offers, with the opportunity to save up to 50% on Highstreet prices.
New Club Lounge
During the 1 hour 30 minutes trip from Dover to Calais, passengers can relax and recharge in the new all-inclusive Club Lounge. There is a wide selection of hot and cold dishes available throughout the day, including breakfast and main meal options, as well as a new range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. You’ll have everything you need to arrive rested and refreshed at your destination!
