There will be the chance to watch a world-renowned dance company perform a much-loved fairy tale live this weekend.
The Bolshoi Ballet’s performance of The Sleeping Beauty will be screened live from Moscow at Showcase Cinema de Lux at Bluewater, as part of screenings at selected cinemas across the country.
The story starts with Princess Aurora’s christening, where the evil Carabosse throws a curse upon her, that on her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger and die.
Fortunately, the powerful Lilac Fairy is able to lessen the curse so that instead she will fall into a sleep for 100 years and will only be able to be woken by a kiss from a prince.
The fairy tale boasts arguably Tchaikovsky’s greatest score, along with choreography by the legendary Yuri Grigorovich.
Hailed as one of the world’s most foremost ballet companies, the Bolshoi’s dancers will perform the purest style of classical ballet.
James Dobbin, director of Event Cinema at Showcase Cinemas, said: “Renowned for its spectacular performances, the Bolshoi Ballet’s production of The Sleeping Beauty is a must-see. Our guests will have the opportunity to experience the breath-taking set and glittering costumes, as the dancers perform live. We’re delighted to be bringing this timeless classic to our cinemas for everyone to enjoy in high definition.”
The showing will be on Sunday, January 22, at 3pm. For tickets and to book showcasecinemas.co.uk
