Meanwhile councils have received various applications for road closures to allow street parties to go ahead in towns and villages.

The fancy dress theme for adults and children is fairy tales. Tickets, including a souvenir mug, are available from the post office, tearooms and library.

Some parts of Kent are also preparing to throw street parties.

Kent County Council has granted permission for road closures for 14 street parties to celebrate the royal wedding.

One person planning a special event of their own is Denise Stace in Coniston Close, Gillingham.

She is behind an idea to mark the day with a street party of her own.

"I'm in the process of organising a street party for the Royal Wedding," she said.

"We've had two before. We've got 250 people coming and what we do is we charge £15 per adult and £5 for the child.

"They get entertainment all afternoon for the children including a bouncy castle, a BBQ, the fire brigade say they should be coming down and then we've got a bar and a DJ in the evening."

However the reason people are meeting may not be down to the couple's popularity, Denise added.

"We live in a really good community where everyone gets on and we just like to get together and have a bit of fun," Denise added.

"We had one for the Queen's 60th reign on the throne.

"It was my daughter that really got me to do this because I didn't think anyone would be interested, not just because it's Harry but because he's not directly in line to the throne."

The opposite was true in 2011 when Prince William married Kate Middleton as 182 street parties were held in Kent.

Meanwhile, another party is being held by organisers in Lower Sands, Dymchurch.

It will kick off from 3pm until around 8pm and people have the chance to enjoy food and a raffle.

Are you holding a street party that we don't know about? Let us know by emailing news@thekmgroup.co.uk or tweeting your party snap to @Kent_Online.

Of course, there will be wall-to-wall coverage on TV for those who would rather watch the nuptials from the comfort of their sofa.

Here's a run down of how to major channels will be covering the event:

BBC

Leading BBC1's live coverage - which begins at 9am on Saturday morning - will be presenters Kirsty Young, Huw Edwards, Dermot O'Leary, Tina Daheley, Alex Jones, Ore Oduba and Anita Rani.

On the morning of the wedding, Kirsty and Dermot will be based by the moat outside Windsor Castle, while Huw Edwards will be on the roof of the Guard Room within the walls of Windsor Castle

Other members of the team will be across Windsor to capture the stories, excitement and reactions of the day, chatting to wedding guests as they enter the Chapel and meeting some of those lucky enough to have a ticket.

Kirsty Young says: "They're a couple who seem to have captured the goodwill of the world.

Yet at the heart of this national event is a very personal, modern day love story. It looks set to be a royal wedding like no other and I’m very pleased indeed to be part of the BBC One team sharing it with the nation."

BBC1 coverage will end at 2pm on Saturday and later in the evening BBC2 will look back on the day with The Royal Wedding: Highlights of the Day from 6.30pm until 8pm.

But for anyone who can't wait for the start of Saturday's proceedings, Kirsty, Huw and Dermot will be kicking off royal wedding celebrations on Friday night with a look ahead show - The Royal Wedding: They’re Getting Married In The Morning - which is on BBC1 at 7pm for an hour.

Communities are also being given a special one-off dispensation by the BBC in relation to the licence fee for the royal wedding.

Those celebrating at special events and parties in town halls, community centres and streets across Britain, where a television is not usually watched, can screen the event live without needing to purchase a licence. The dispensation will also apply to shops and events such as agricultural shows.

Pipa Doubtfire, head of revenue management for the BBC, explained: “I’m delighted to announce that we have decided to offer a one-off dispensation for the Royal Wedding on May 19. This will allow the public to enjoy live coverage of the occasion at special events like street parties, where TV is not usually watched, without needing to buy a licence."

Chris Evans will be heading up Radio 2's coverage of the event and Claire Balding will host live commentary on Radio 4 from 11.30am to 1pm. There will also be special editions of Radio 4’s Today programme and BBC Radio 5 live Breakfast all broadcast live from Windsor.

ITV

ITV will begin its live coverage at 9.25am on Saturday morning.

It will be presented by Julie Etchingham and Phillip Schofield from a specially constructed studio on the Long Walk in Windsor.

Other presenters will be positioned both inside St George's chapel, at Windsor Castle and along the procession route while Rageh Omaar will join Sentebale, the charity co-founded by Prince Harry, for traditional wedding day celebrations in Lesotho.

Presenters are set to be joined by a range of guests including those who know Prince Harry and Meghan, as well as friends of the Royal family.

But if you fail to be close to a television come noon, ITV has confirmed alongside regular updates both online and across its social media platforms, that it will broadcast an extended late news bulletin and a special hour-long Royal Wedding highlights show on ITV3 at 8pm.

Julie Etchingham said: "I'm delighted to be working on the royal wedding - and teaming up again with Philip just as we did in 2011 and for the Diamond Jubilee.

"It'll be a day of big celebrations not only in Windsor but around the country - and it'll be huge fun capturing the spirit of a great British occasion."

Sky

Presenter Kay Burley will front Sky News coverage of the royal wedding.

And a picture perfect view is being promised as the broadcaster claims to be the only one screening proceedings in ultra high definition (UHD).

Avid royal watchers using the Sky News app will also be given a live who's who guide to wedding guests as they arrive as Sky uses specially designed software to name guests as they enter the chapel. The app will also point out each person's connection to the royal couple.

Sky's coverage, like that of other broadcasters, will incorporate live studio guests which is set to include Megan Markle's former agent Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne.

John Ryley, head of Sky News said: "We're incredibly excited to be the first and only broadcaster to televise a royal wedding in UHD and to offer those watching the ceremony across the country expert analysis, innovative technology and bespoke coverage on mobile."

Channel 4

On the eve of the royal wedding Channel 4 is promising 'lively conversation' with The Meghan Markle Effect at 11pm.

What is described as fun, fair and far-ranging discussion the programme will explore what the Hollywood actress and campaigner may bring to the monarchy and what impact she will have on feminism and race in her adopted nation as well as whether Prince Harry and his wife are set to become the international face of British royalty.

Hosted by Channel 4 News presenter Fatima Manji, the debate will feature a diverse panel of high-profile royalists, republicans, celebrities, cynics, comedians and commentators, plus a specially-invited audience.

What about the cup final?

Have no fear, the FA Cup final may fall on the same day as the royal wedding but the game itself does not clash with the royal wedding.

The match at Wembley between Chelsea and Manchester United kicks off at 5.15pm on BBC 1, so footie-loving royal family fans can have their cake and eat it.

Gary Lineker will be presenting.
