More than 100 residents in Whitstable have been relying on a 'noisy' generator for electricity for more than a week.

After a power outage at the start of last week, UK Power Networks set up a generator on Tuesday to maintain power supplies to 118 homes in the Eversleigh Rise area, while a fault is fixed.

But the noise of the equipment is causing disruption for some residents.

Elizabeth Taylor, owner of local confectioner For the Love of Fudge, described it on Facebook as "a loud generator sound day and night".

She wrote: "I thought it was a tumble dryer originally. Our lights keep flickering."

Another resident who lives near to where the generator has been set up, said: "The noise is so loud it's like having a washing machine on spin 24/7."

UK Power Networks say repairs are underway, but that the generator could still be in place for several days.

A spokesman said: "Engineers are working as quickly as possible to complete repairs to some equipment at an electricity substation and aim to remove the generator by the weekend.

"We apologise to residents for any inconvenience caused."
