An elderly woman has escaped injury after her car collided with a lorry on the Thanet Way this morning.

Ambulance crews were called to the crash between Herne Bay and Whitstable on the A299 at 8.45am this morning after reports the lorry had hit the central reservation and crashed into the car.

Both vehicles were approaching Clapham Hill on the dual carriageway, and police officers closed the road heading London bound.

Kent Ambulance spokesman Rich Airey said the woman, believed to be in her 80s, was unhurt in the crash, but had to be checked over by paramedics at the scene.

A picture taken from a passing vehicle appears to show her damaged car at the side of the dual carriageway, with debris spread across the wet road surface.
