A car has ploughed into a shop in a busy town centre.

Emergency services are at the scene of the incident in Whitstable where, according to eye witnesses, the driver of a black BMW is trapped in the vehicle.

The car is said to have crashed into the front of Chappell Contemporary art gallery on the corner of Oxford Street and Nelson Road.

Fire, police and an ambulance are at the scene and the road is currently closed with traffic building up in both directions.

An eyewitness said: "It's chaos.The car has gone right through the front of the shop."
