A car ended up submerged in water after it was swallowed up by the sea at Whitstable.

The VW Golf was overcome by the tide as desperate efforts were made to salvage the car.

Photos show a jetski parked up on a nearby launch ramp and a person swimming out to the sunken hatchback.

It is not known if the car belonged to a jetskier.

Passers-by watched from the beach as the vehicle was claimed by the sea on Saturday evening.

High tide was at just after 4.30pm.

Last year, another VW Polo in Whitstable was victim to the incoming tide before being dragged out from the water.
