Fire starts in cash machine at Tesco Express in Tankerton

Fire crews were called to a Tesco Express after its cash machine caught fire.

The team arrived at the Tankerton store, near Whitstable, at 8am to find smoke coming from the ATM.

Using breathing apparatus and breaking equipment, they gained access to the small fire, which was then extinguished.

The cause of the blaze is not known and there were no reported injuries.

The shop, in Tankerton Road, was closed while firefighters carried out their work.

It has since re-opened.

A Tesco spokesman said: "Our Tankerton Road Express was closed for a few hours this morning due to an issue with the cash machine at the store.

"The store is now back open."
