Gas repair works on the A2990 Thanet Way in Whitstable are likely to continue until at least tomorrow (Saturday).

Residents have complained of a strong smell of gas in the Golden Hill area, and around the Community College Whitstable in Bellevue Road.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed around an area south of Whitstable's Tesco roundabout, where engineers continue to work to fix the gas main.

SGN spokesman Katie Lobban said the repairs, which began yesterday, are now expected to last into the weekend.

The gas company has confirmed the leak poses no threat to the health and safety of local residents.

Ms Lobban said: "We always have signs up near our excavations to help keep the public safe."
