Whitstable: Police arrest man on suspicion of criminal damage after town centre vandalism

A man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage after dozens of shops were hit with a shovel in Whitstable town centre.

Police were called just before 7.30pm yesterday to reports of a man damaging windows in Cromwell Road, High Street and Oxford Street.

Among the buildings targeted were the town's library, cafes, a kebab house, Chinese takeaway, a charity shop, a butcher and a pharmacy.

The 36-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and is currently in police custody.
