Whitstable: Man charged after elderly woman taken to hospital following alleged attack

A man has been charged after an elderly woman was hospitalised following an alleged attack.

The victim, in her 70s, was taken to a London hospital where she was treated for a number of injuries to her face and body.

It follows an alleged assault in Dargate Road in Yorkletts, near Whitstable, on Tuesday evening.

Perry Redmond, 49, of Wheatsheaf Close in Faversham, was arrested shortly afterwards on Tuesday and has been charged with wounding with intent.

Residents who witnessed the alleged assault reported it to police.

A member of the public is thought to have tried to intervene but was said to also have been assaulted by the suspect.

Redmond appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court today and has been remanded in custody to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday, June 21.
