Whitstable home damaged after washing machine fire in Avondale Close

A man was treated for smoke inhalation after a washing machine caught fire at a house early this morning.

Firefighters were sent to the property in Avondale Close in Whitstable at 7.30am.

When they arrived they found the washing machine had caught fire.

Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to deal with the flames.

They then used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the property.

Firefighters from two engines were at the scene for an hour to deal with the fire and clear the smoke.

A man suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation was passed into the care of paramedics.
