A popular McDonald's is shut for the next five weeks to allow for an extension to be added.
Those wanting to tuck into a Big Mac from the Chestfield branch, off the Old Thanet Way, are having to head elsewhere.
The fast-food restaurant is expected to remain shut until July 20.
Its closure has sparked an influx in trade for the nearby KFC, with the drive-thru busier than usual.
McDonald's was granted planning permission for the work by Canterbury City Council on Monday.
It revolves around increasing the size of the kitchen, the chiller and storage facilities.
New counters and an updated entrance will also be added to the outlet between Whitstable and Herne Bay.
There will, however, be no extra seating created from the extension.
The work comes after the restaurant recently underwent another renovation to improve the flow of traffic in its drive-thru system.
Back in 2017, the Chestfield branch was the first in east Kent to get a digital makeover, with touchscreens being introduced for walk-in customers.
With the most recent application, one opponent lodged an objection to the scheme, citing fears over an increase in noise pollution, traffic congestion and litter.
However, with KCC Highways raising no criticisms, planning officers at the city council looked favourably upon the plan.
Three extra customer parking bays will be created as a result of the revamp.
McDonald's has been approached for comment.
