A power cut in Whitstable town centre has caused at least one shop to close.

Power is currently out in at least parts of Harbour Street and High Street.

Whitstable Produce Store took to Twitter to tell customers it will be shutting for the rest of the day, as a result of the problem.

The unplanned outage is due to an electrical fault that occurred at about 1pm. Power is estimated to return between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

A UK Power Networks spokesman said: "Engineers are working quickly and safely to restore supplies to 12 customers in the High Street area of Whitstable after a fault on substation equipment at 13.09 this afternoon.

"We understand how difficult it can be without power, and apologies for any inconvenience caused."
