Whitstable tradesmen warned after spate of tool theft attempts

Tools and copper piping were stolen from a van this week, sparking a police appeal to not keep valuables in vehicles.
The items went missing in Nelson Road overnight on Thursday, after the parked vehicle was reportedly broken into.
At around 10.30pm the same day, another "vehicle interference" was reported in St Augustine's Crescent. The car's owner was alerted when the alarm sounded, and nothing was reported stolen.
Sergeant Colette Todd said: "Whilst we carry out our enquiries we urge people to be vigilant, and if they see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles to call us immediately on 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.
"We also want to take this opportunity to remind builders and tradesmen not to keep valuable items in their vehicles overnight.
"Although it can be time consuming to remove them every day, tools can be very expensive and if stolen could cause considerable disruption to businesses.
"All residents, not just tradesmen, should keep this in mind. Never leave anything on display, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. Don't give thieves an opportunity to window shop."
Anyone with information about the theft and attempted theft can call police on 01843 222289 quoting references ZY/010389/18 for Nelson Road and ZY/10509/18 for St Augustine’s Crescent.
Alternatively call Kent Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
