Roadworks blocking the pavement on one of Whitstable's busiest roads will be removed in time for the Oyster Festival this weekend, engineers say.

Workers from UK Power Networks started fixing an underground electricity cable on Tuesday.

They say the work, which is blocking the path close to the Victoria Street car park, should be finished before thousands of visitors arrive in the town this weekend.

UK Power Networks spokesman Niamh Arnett said: "Our engineers are working quickly to repair an underground electricity cable in Harbour Street.

"Work started on Tuesday and we are aiming to complete and remove the works before the weekend.

"We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused."
